Research Interests

My research interests are primarily focused in the fields of cognitive robotics and human-robot interaction, including medical and assistive robotics, telerobotics and haptics, also spanning robust, adaptive and intelligent robot control and robot learning with applications in the domain of advanced and dexterous robotic manipulation, as well as in walking (legged) and mobile robotics.
I have been working on research topics such as: (a) Design, control and experimental evaluation of haptic display schemes, with main applications in the field of interactive medical simulation based on virtual and augmented reality techniques, (b) Adaptive control schemes for telepresence and telehaptics applications, (c) Development and assessment of telerobotic control architectures and human/robot interfaces, with applications in the field of education (e.g. remote/virtual laboratories) .
Current research activities include:
(i) Assistive robotic devices for people with motor and cognitive impairments,
(ii) Planning, navigation and control of mobile and field robots,
(iii) Social robotics and child-robot interaction, with applications in education and learning,
(iv) Cognitive surgical robotics and telerobotics involving haptic display,
(v) Robot learning, including adaptive reinforcement learning schemes, with applications that include robotic grasping and dexterous manipulation, as well as control of soft robots.
