The
housing problem is one of the basic problems of Scouting in Pyrgos. After 66 years
of Scouting presence we don't have yet a permanent building. The 1st Scout Group
has, in the last 20 years, changed six times building with the last movement happening
last year.. 20 years ago, we had a building at Letrinon street, near the central
square of Pyrgos. Then by the end of the 70's we moved to a very well regulated
for Scouts building at Omirou st. Unfortunately this building was old and we had
to leave it in 1986, because part of the roof was ready to collapse (as was done
shortly after we moved). After a short time interval of wandering into two inappropriate
buildings we ended up in the building at 7, Patroklou street.
Unfortunately
the earthquake of
March 1993 caused cracks in the walls and parts
of the roof, so we looked for a new place, since the building was pulled down.
Our next building, in 1997, was located in
a basement of a new apartment building, belonging to Themes and Zacharias Mantas,
old rankers and Scouts of our group. Knowing this was a temporary solution we
kept searching for a new place. In early 2001 we moved once again into a new building
with a nice backyard. The rent had been taken care by the municipality of Pyrgos.
One year later we move once again into in our search for a more permanent solution
into a new building, at 54 Ermou street. The rent is once more a responsibility
of the municipality of Pyrgos and we are greatfiull to the mayor mr. Gavrilis
Liatsis.
The problem is that, it is still a temporary
solution (maybe more permanent than other times) so everyone in our town hope
that one day we 'll have a permanent place to meet.
