- RACE R2066: MONET-Mobile Network
The MONET project objective is to define a fixed infrastructure of the
Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) as part of the B-
ISDN, so that a wide range of mobile services will be supported in a cost
effective manner. These services include the same kind of services offered
by fixed communication networks as well as unique services such as
navigation, vehicle location and road traffic information. The project study
items consist of new techniques for hand-over, location management
security, databases and development of signaling protocols. In the MONET
framework a UMTS network architecture is defined permitting maximum
exploitation of the Intelligent Networks and adopting features of the
Universal Personal Telecommunication (UPT) services. Performance studies
of the proposed solutions are also undertaken and contributions to the
standardization bodies ensure the dissemination of the MONET
developments.
